Fifth Grade Prepares for Their Class Shabbaton on February 11!
Claire Winter, 5th Grade Teacher
In Hebrew and Jewish Studies, 5th graders are currently learning the story of Jacob and his twin brother, Esau. Students learned why Esau was willing to give up his birthright and why Jacob wanted the right to be recognized as the first born child. Students in Ms. Barak's Jewish Studies class questioned whether Jacob stole Esau's birthright or if it was a just trade. Students discussed the importance of treating others with respect and why it's important to work hard to achieve your goals and not cut corners. The 5th graders engaged in various creative approaches to learning about this Parsha: the students drew the ladders to heaven and they acted out the Parsha!
While students are working hard in Jewish Studies and Hebrew to learn more about Jewish culture, history, language and community, the fifth grade teachers are planning our big fifth grade event: the Shabbaton!

Class of 2025
5th-Grade Shabbaton
Friday, February 11, 2022

Each year our fifth graders come together for a Shabbaton, or a grade level community Shabbat experience. This year's event will take place on campus and extend from the normal school day into the evening.*
Fifth graders should arrive at school at 7:45 a.m. for a full day of special programming. We’ll bond together through team building and community-oriented games, raise their ruach with outdoor activities and prepare to welcome a meaningful Shabbat! Our fifth-grade advisory team and ShinShinim will lead us through programming, Kabbalat Shabbat and a special Shabbat Dinner! Pick-up will take place between 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. A more detailed letter, including the exact pick-up time, will be sent in the coming weeks.
If you haven't already done so, please click here to submit your child's t-shirt size for the event.
*We are currently working very hard to plan this amazing in-school Shabbaton experience for our 5th grade students. If there is a change in COVID protocols, we will keep you informed with any updates to this event.
