🍋 Second Grade Sukkah Building
Haley Trudell, Lower School General Studies Teacher
Our classroom has been busy celebrating the Jewish holidays throughout October, and at the beginning of Sukkot, we built our very own mini sukkahs!
Students had the opportunity to think creatively and make connections to what they’ve been learning in Jewish Studies. Each child designed and decorated their own sukkah to take home and share in the joy of Sukkot. Together, we brainstormed the common decorations you might see in a sukkah—harvest symbols, paper chains, beads, and more! Since the sukkahs were mini versions, students had to carefully plan and use their executive-functioning skills to create decorations that fit just right inside their small structures.
It was amazing to see how much teamwork and problem-solving happened along the way. Students were helping each other, sharing materials, and celebrating every little success. Their finished sukkahs were so creative and full of personality—such a fun and meaningful way to celebrate Sukkot together!
