In 6th grade Reading Workshop, students have spent the past three weeks immersed in historical fiction book clubs. Students have been reading and discussing books revolving around historical moments that impacted Jews.
During this unit, the 6th graders have analyzed main characters, zoomed in on moments of conflict and trouble, analyzed how the historical setting impacts their characters, made inferences about minor characters based on their actions and dialogue, and researched historical topics from their books that they wanted to learn more about.
This week, students are finishing their books while working with their book club members to identify motifs and themes. They will then begin their historical fiction book club assessment, which will involve a panel discussion about their book in front of the class.
