Our Senior Kindergarten students truly look forward to math time each week. Our math primary resource, Pearson Investigations, teaches new concepts through game playing and exploration. Our students relish each opportunity to play a math game with a partner or group of friends. By allowing our students to explore math concepts through games and hands-on activities, we are fostering a love for math and developing their foundational math skills. This program exposes our students to various math concepts including sorting, developing number sense, 2-D and 3-D shapes, number recognition, data collection, measurement, addition, subtraction and teen numbers.  

Students engage in math problems and hands-on activities and games which gives them the opportunity to apply and solidify new math concepts and explain and discuss their understanding with their peers. They are asked to share their reasoning and solutions and explain their math thinking with one another. Playing math games encourages strategic thinking, problem solving and math fluency. Play allows students to talk, think, reason and wonder as they move through problems and new concepts together. 

Throughout Senior Kindergarten, many of the concepts we expose our students to build upon a skill that we learned previously in the year. The teaching and learning of important math ideas progress throughout their years in Lower School as well. Throughout their SK year, and as they move into Lower School, we feel confident that their love for math will continue to grow and develop as they gain confidence in their skills and build a further understanding of various math concepts.
