Second graders in Mr. Grogan's class recently wrapped up their nonfiction writing unit and celebrated with a publishing party! Each student chose a topic to research and using mentor texts, created their own "All About ..." book.

The students learned how mentor authors craft openings that "hook" the reader and provide lots of important information to help the reader better understand the topic. Once the students finished writing a chapter, they chose specific text features to better support their facts and keep the reader engaged with the big ideas.
