🛼 Roller Skating and Blading Fun in Lower School
Nicky Mintz, LS PE Teacher
The lower school completed their roller skating and rollerblading unit before mid-winter break. Each school year, SK-8th grade students participate in roller skating and rollerblading for three weeks. During this unit, lower school students learned how to put on their safety equipment and skates/blades by themselves, how to start, stop, and fall safely, and got to participate in fun activities such as limbo and four corners. Some classes even got to turn off the lights and plug in disco balls to get that authentic roller rink experience.

The 1st and 2nd grade classes enjoyed having their 8th grade buddies join them for the first two weeks of skating while our 4th graders got the exciting experience of transitioning from roller skates to rollerblades. This is something many of our lower school students look forward to getting to do in 4th grade. Additionally, our 3rd and 4th grade students get the opportunity to participate in time trials where they skate a lap around the gym as quickly as possible and, then, receive a second opportunity to beat their personal time.
