Lauren Ludwig, Middle School Math Teacher and Heather Segil, Middle School Teacher
The 8th graders in Ms. Ludwig’s math class explored the abstract concept of recursion. They created beautiful representations of the famous geometric recursive sequence: the Sierpinski sequence. The class discussed the patterns in the triangle, wrote recursive functions, and explored fractals. We even created our very own three-dimensional Sierpinski tetrahedron! We then connected the Sierpinski triangle to Pascal’s triangle and cellular automata. If any of this seems confusing, just ask an 8th grader - they'll explain it with ease!
