Photos: Honoring & Celebrating the "Yoms" at Bernard Zell
Gary Weisserman, Head of School
Each year, in the days following Passover, we enter the season we sometimes refer to as the “yoms”—Yom HaShoah, Yom HaZikaron and Yom HaAtzmaut. Collectively, each experience builds on what precedes it in describing the modern Jewish experience.
Students began the month by reflecting on the atrocities of the Holocaust and the memories of those who we tragically lost. Then, last week, Middle School students led a beautiful Yom HaZikaron Ceremony dedicated to honoring and memorializing Israel’s fallen soldiers and victims of terrorism. To conclude the week, we emerged from the solemnity of these days and celebrated the overwhelming joy of our peoplehood with Yom HaAtzmaut, Israeli Independence Day, last Friday. Happy 73rd birthday, Israel! Click below to enjoy a full photo album of the week.
A special thank you to the Lucas and Arkes families as well as Ms. Jury, Hamorah Hagit, the entire Jewish studies faculty and our wonderful ShinShinim for putting together an amazing and thoughtful week. It's not easy putting together a quality experience with COVID restrictions, but they pulled together fantastic experiences for our students!
