🌇 Learning Through Building in Junior Kindergarten
JK105
JK105 has shown a strong interest in building with large blocks, MAGNA-TILES, and manipulatives since the beginning of the school year. As the months have progressed, their structures have become increasingly detailed and thoughtfully planned, demonstrating growth in problem-solving and early engineering skills.
To extend this learning, teachers introduced a class trivia question to research together: “Do you know what the world’s tallest building is?” Through group discussion and shared research, the children discovered that the tallest building is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
Coincidentally, a parent visiting Dubai was able to share real-life photos of the building, sparking even more excitement, curiosity, and meaningful connections to the children’s learning. The class eagerly worked together to recreate their own Burj Khalifa, practicing collaboration, communication, creativity, and spatial awareness along the way.
Prior to winter break, small tea lights were added to the MAGNA-TILE structures, along with cars, play people, and other loose parts to further expand imaginative play. Children extended their constructions by creating boats, garages, and roads, bringing their ideas to life through cooperative play.
We look forward to seeing where this excitement for building leads next!
