Leading the Way Through Literature: Fourth Grade Book Club
Rachel Silverberg, Head of Lower School and Alicia Levy, Librarian
Fourth graders recently came together for a student-created, student-led book club centered on Linked by Gordon Korman. As students followed the story of interconnected characters and historical events, they explored how individual choices can have far-reaching effects across time and communities.
Through rich discussions, students examined themes of responsibility, empathy, and standing up for what is right. Students reflected on how characters showed courage, took initiative, and made positive choices even when it was difficult. This learning is strongly connected to our value of Leading the Way. They discussed how being a leader does not always mean being in charge, but often means doing the right thing and influencing others through kindness and integrity.
By making predictions, asking thoughtful questions, and supporting their ideas with evidence from the text, students strengthened both their literacy skills and their understanding of leadership. Linked sparked meaningful conversations and empowered students to see how they, too, can lead the way by making thoughtful choices that create positive change in their own communities.
