JK 103
Over the past few weeks, the students in JK 103 have been busy transforming our dramatic play and loft area into both an airport and an airplane. This interest emerged shortly after the winter break when many students shared their vacation experiences. After observing their enthusiasm, we gathered books that explored the different roles that are needed at an airport as well as learning about how airplanes are made. Once they had the information they needed, the students converted our loft area into an airplane, where they simulated flights and rotated playing roles as a pilot, co-pilot, flight attendants and passengers. Right below our loft, our dramatic play was turned into the airport. Children made suitcases, a conveyor belt for the luggage, seatbelts and controls for the plane.
Through imaginative play, children learn to express themselves, understand different perspectives, and build crucial social skills including cooperation, sharing, and problem-solving. It also helps in developing their vocabulary and communication skills as they interact with their peers in various pretend scenarios.
We look forward to continuing the imaginative play we have seen and hope to have some professionals come in to speak with the children about their careers.
