Ms. Adler, Lower School Teacher
Our first grade Jewish value, simcha (joy), is top of mind during the Hanukkah season! First grade students have found a way to sprinkle a little simcha into our Social Studies unit on economics. We have been exploring the skills and knowledge required to produce certain goods and services; and discovering how consumers make choices that impact themselves and the larger economy. As a culmination of our learning, we have decided to open a Simcha Shop, or Hanukkah “market,” that will provide goods and services to our school community. During our weekly Shabbat gathering, we brainstormed what consumers may want and need for Hanukkah. Students came up with goods such as dreidels, bracelets, and stress balls and services like gift wrapping and card writing. In the coming weeks, we will prepare to open our shop for business. Each student will have a role in making the Simcha Shop a joyful experience for all who visit!
