The 5th grade general music class has been studying the history of American hip-hop. As part of this unit, they have practiced hip-hop dance moves and listened to a variety of rap songs throughout history. For the culminating activity, the students wrote poems about what they are thankful for in their lives. They then transformed these poems into rap songs.

Currently, they are recording their raps using a program called Soundtrap. Through this process, they are learning how to digitally manipulate and edit their recordings to enhance their songs.
