Dani Steele, Interim Head of Middle School
Eighth grade student, Ben H., proudly represented Bernard Zell at the International Geography Bee National Finals in Washington, DC this past week. In his first year competing, Ben became a national semi-finalist and finished 9th in the tournament which had nearly 200 contestants in the 8th grade. The competition was fierce. Most students are seasoned veterans and have been competing in these competitions since 4th grade, but Ben was right on par with the best of them. He missed out on the finals round by just a single question!
Ben has earned an invitation to the International Finals which will be held in July, 2024. We all want to extend a sincere thank you to Doc Ellison for encouraging Ben to pursue his passion and enter the competition.
And, a huge mazel tov to Ben, who was able to showcase his talent as well his courage, perseverance, kindness and good sportsmanship throughout the competition.
