Early Childhood is Awarded Microgrant from JUF
Abby Aloni, Head of Early Childhood

The Early Childhood team is excited to share that they are the recipients of a $3,000 Inclusion Initiative Microgrant from The Jewish United Fund. Their original idea was to create an Early Childhood focused sensory room that supported the needs of our very youngest students. With this unique year, we have pivoted to creating a sensory lending library and will have it up and running by the beginning of the new year.

Sensory tools and movement throughout the day are an integral element for supporting the social and emotional needs of the whole child. For some children, the business of the classroom can also become overwhelming and/or overstimulating, resulting in greater dysregulation in the student. By creating a multi-sensory lending library, we will be providing our students with an opportunity to experience the comforting sound and visual effects, tactile experiences, use of aromas and music and opportunities for gross motor movement. Time spent in a multi-sensory environment has been shown to increase concentration, focus, attention, improve alertness and mobilization and general awareness of the surrounding world.
