🐠🌊 Discovering the Sea: A Creative Journey with Wit & Wisdom
Emily Raisher, 3rd Grade
In third grade, along with the rest of lower school, we have been piloting a new knowledge-based literacy program: Wit & Wisdom. Recently, our focus has been on why and how scientists explore the sea and sea creatures. Through nonfiction texts, students have discovered how text features can assist in comprehending complex ideas and uncovering the central message. With our newfound understanding of how Jacques Cousteau invented tools for underwater exploration, we decided to incorporate an artistic element into our learning. Students adorned their Spring self-portraits with breathing apparatuses, used a liquid watercolor wash to depict themselves underwater, and created 3-D sea creatures using model magic.
