"There is now a fancy restaurant, right on the site where the morgue of the camp was. Most people have no idea what happened at this location," says Sinisa Vukadinovic, a teacher based in Belgrade, Serbia.

"Back in the summer of 2019, when BZ wonderfully supported me in attending the non-profit, Centropa's teacher workshop in Berlin, I came across a riveting phenomenon that I felt compelled to write about. I was lucky to meet these amazing non-Jewish educators who teach about the Holocaust in countries where there are no longer any Jews and where the subject is not mandated in their country's curriculum. These brave teachers are often working alone without collegial support. They know that the subject is important for its own sake, as Jewish people were once an integral part of their societies, but also for how the subject of racism or ostracising a particular group of people connects to issues their societies are facing today."
