😶 Day of Silence 2023 is Wednesday, May 31
Bernard Zell Middle School Faculty
On Wednesday, May 31, Bernard Zell Middle School students, faculty and staff will have an opportunity to visit our third annual Day of Silence Art Exposè in Makom Kehillah. The Day of Silence is a national student-led demonstration where LGBTQ+ students and allies around the country—and the world—take a vow of silence to protest the harmful effect of harassment and discrimination of LGBTQIA+ people in schools. Although this day is grounded in bringing attention to the harassment and bullying of LGBTQ+ students, it is also a day to educate and celebrate. At Bernard Zell, this day is honored with an Art Exposè where Middle School students can choose to visit the space and interact with different art mediums.

The National Day of Silence occurred on April 14, 2023, which was during Passover Break. In order to honor this event, we chose May 31, 2023, as a way to kick off Pride Month.
Bernard Zell is joining other Jewish organizations and synagogues to march together at the Chicago Pride Parade on June 25, 2023. All families are invited to join, please click the link below to register. Once you sign-up, you'll receive a follow-up email with logistics and parade-day prior to the event.
