Be A Star! BZ First Grader Makes Broadway Debut
Laura Reff, Director of Marketing & Communications
We are thrilled to announce that our very own BZ first grader, Remy C. ‘30, made his Broadway debut this month in the critically acclaimed and award-winning play, Leopoldstadt! Remy’s dad recently asked, “How did you feel when you found out you were cast in Leopoldstadt on Broadway?” He answered, “I was so excited my brain exploded!”
From leopoldstadtplay.com, the play is set in Vienna and takes its title from the Jewish quarter. This passionate drama of love and endurance begins in the last days of 1899 and follows one extended family deep into the heart of the 20th century.
We spoke with Remy’s parents, Ben and Aurélia, to learn more. Ben shared that one of the major storylines that resonated with him was about a father who wants his son to follow in his footsteps and carry on the family business. Twenty years ago, Ben was cast in Sam Mendes’ production of Gypsy on Broadway, starring Bernadette Peters. In Remy’s own words, “I love that this is happening and it was my dream to have this opportunity to be onstage. And I wanted to be like my dad, so I got that opportunity to be like him.”
Kol ha’kavod, Remy, 5 stars from all of us at BZ!
