An Eagles Update from Kyle Sheahan, Director of Athletics
Kyle Sheahan, Director of Athletics & Physical Education
Greetings Eagles,
It is hard to believe that fall sports are wrapping up. Good luck to our 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams this week in the CAMS league playoffs.
Congratulations to our 6th grade and 7th grade soccer teams on their seasons. The season officially ended yesterday as the 6th graders played their final game against Latin. Our soccer program grew tremendously this year. With a lot of very close competitions (four games decided by one goal as well as two games ending in a tie), our players learned the importance of perseverance. They played with determination and grit, fought until the very end of every game, and represented the school with class. Kol HaKavod to our soccer players and their dedicated coaches.

Booster Games Are Huge Success

Thank you to all our Lower School students for attending our first Booster Games of the year. On Wednesday October 12th over 40 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders cheered on our 6th grade soccer team as we took on Parker. We had giveaways, prizes, Eddie the Eagle, and concessions for all to enjoy. We look forward to our next booster games in January (basketball)

Inaugural Cross Country ROSS COUNTRY team a huge success!

We tried out Cross Country this year for the very first time - and it’s definitely here to stay! Bernard Zell had eight runners who participated in three meets this fall. Each meet welcomed over 30 schools and had, at minimum, 400 runners. To say these meets were big would be an understatement. See below for some incredible highlights from our runners, some of whom were medalists! Thank you to Coach Josh Melton for leading our runners this year.

Lane Tech Invitational, September 28

  • Abbey D., 6th grade, placed 15th out of 90 runners with a 1.15 mile time of 8:36 and received Bernard Zell's first cross country medal (given to top 30 finishers).
  • Eli G., 7th grade, placed 25th out of 123 runners (both 7th and 8th grade) with a 1.5 mile time of 10:17.
  • Sam S. ran an excellent race, coming in quicker than he had hoped with a 1.5 mile time of 12:24. Sam came in 94th of 123 runners.
  • Our 6th grade boys each ran great races. Owen R. placed in the top 40 of 144 runners! Owen came in 37th with a 1.15 mile time of 8:08. AJ S. came in 80th (9:03) while Max H. came in 101st/144 (9:40).

Lane Tech Invitational, October 6

  • Abbey D. finished in 11th places out of 115 runners, giving her TWO TOP-15 finishes.
  • Eli G., the current CAMS League Champion in the 100M and 400M, also ran in all three meets. Eli finished in the top 30 of each of them. Eli ran a 10:45 1.6mi run, good enough for 28th out of 137 runners.
  • Owen R. ran all in all three meets and finished in the top 35 in each one of them. Owen raced against 175 other runners and finished in 27th place, his best finish this season, with a 1.1 mile time of 7:13.
  • AJ S. finished 89th out of 176(!!) runners.
  • Sam S. improved his time by 14 seconds, placing 78th (14 spots better) out of 137 7th and 8th grade runners.
