As part of their required summer reading, Bernard Zell 8th grade students read Andrew Mariness' award-winning book, Games of Deception: The True Story of the First U.S. Olympic Basketball Team at the 1936 Olympics. The author met via Zoom with the entire class to discuss the fascinating story of basketball at the Nazi Olympics. Mariness painted a vivid picture of the games from both the American and German points of view. He generously answered student questions about his process and the art of writing nonfiction.
