6th Grade Explores Big Idea Topics with Paper Sculptures
Gili Sherman, Middle School Art Teacher

The 6th-grade classes are exploring how to express Big Idea topics such as Creativity, Community, Courage, Movement, Humor, Wisdom and Childhood with materials as basic as colorful papers, scissors and glue. The students first learned a variety of folding and attachment techniques and saw the works of a number of contemporary paper-sculpture artists. Now, they are creatively expressing their themes in sculptural form. They are learning how something as simple as flat paper can be transformed into amazing three-dimensional sculptures. We hope you enjoy some samples of their work below!
