Second-grade students are wrapping up their non-fiction writing unit. Each student chose a topic to research and, using mentor texts, created their own "All About ..." book. The students learned how mentor authors craft their openings to "hook" the reader and provide lots of important information to help the reader better understand the topic. Once students finished writing a chapter, they chose specific text features to better support their facts to keep the reader engaged with big ideas. Next week, the students will have a publishing party to celebrate all of their hard work before moving on to the next unit of writing!
