Karen Leavitt, Head of Lower School
Dear Lower School Families,
As I sit down to write this final Ma Nishma letter, I find myself overwhelmed with gratitude and nostalgia as I reflect on my incredible journey at Bernard Zell over the past two decades.
When I first joined this special community 23 years ago, I could never have imagined the profound impact Bernard Zell would have on my life and my family. I have literally grown up as an adult and an educator in what can only be described as the most supportive and dedicated community. The appreciation for this opportunity is real.
I want to send a sincere and heartfelt thank you to the parent community for embracing me as a teacher and leader over my tenure. Your unwavering support, dedication, and involvement in our school community have been formative in creating a successful and loving environment for kids to thrive. Moreover, you have entrusted us with the care and education of your amazing children, which is the biggest gift of all. I am endlessly grateful for you.
The Lower School is in extraordinary hands with the faculty and staff as we lean into the next tenure of leadership. The teachers are the backbone of BZ, and they are true champions of your children every day. Working alongside the Lower School team has been a tremendous blessing for me, and as I transition to my next chapter, I will take lifelong colleagues and friends with me. And with Rachel at the helm, the team will be unstoppable.
While my emotions are running high right now, please know that I leave with an incredibly full heart of cherished memories and a deep sense of pride in our community. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for the love, support, and friendship you have shown me over the years. I am forever grateful for the privilege of working at BZ.
With lots of love,
