Dear Lower School Families,

It's a joy to have the hallways once again filled with the squeals of friends reuniting, reminiscing over their summers, and excitedly sharing about the activities and learning taking place as newly minted 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students. I hope you are finding comfort in settling back into a routine, knowing that we are mirroring that practice here at school.

Throughout these first few weeks, our remarkable teachers work alongside their students to strengthen their classroom culture in alignment with our values: to inspire curiosity, cultivate community, lead the way, celebrate Jewish identity, and live with integrity and compassion. As we establish our routines and expectations, we consistently support our students in upholding our mission. Be sure to ask them for some examples of how they're doing so!

We're continuing to build structure by investigating new units of inquiry through Wit & Wisdom. Your 1st grader might come home beaming about "A World of Books", as we nurture their growing love of reading and understanding of how books change lives around the world. Second graders might be eagerly sharing about "A Season of Change," as they embed scientific discoveries into their understanding of how change impacts people. If you've wondered about your 3rd grader's interest in oceans, it's likely because they're expanding their understanding of "The Sea." An emphasis on technology and the "why" behind marine explorations creates a hands-on and engaging experience. Our hope is that our oldest students—our 4th graders—are engaging you in conversations about "A Great Heart," discussing both the scientific and psychological components and ways they can demonstrate this trait.

As we move into our high holiday season filled with Jewish learning and celebrating the beauty of fresh starts, we will continue to hold tightly to our routines and procedures. We are grateful for the sense of renewal this season brings—both in our classrooms and in our community. Thank you for your continued partnership as we move forward b’yachad (together).
