Mitzvah Goreret Mitzvah in SK
Andrea Raskin, SK Jewish Studies Teacher
In Senior Kindergarten, we are celebrating Mitzvah Mondays! On Mondays, students plan for the week ahead and set a goal for a mitzvah they will do in the coming week. While a mitzvah literally means ‘commandment’, we accept any act of kindness for this exercise. The students brainstormed a list of kind things that SK students can do and they came up with hundreds of ideas. The excitement really happens on Fridays when we check in with students to see who followed through with their mitzvah and met their goal.
Each completed mitzvah earns a seed to add to our special mitzvah pomegranate. Pomegranates are said to have 613 seeds in them, which is the same as the amount of mitzvot in the Torah! We look forward to filling up the pomegranate in each SK classroom very quickly as a reminder to do kind things. As we often sing together, mitzvah goreret mitzvah, doing a mitzvah leads to doing another mitzvah.
