How do we commemorate and celebrate the life of Elie Wiesel? How do we make the complex writings of Wiesel accessible to 8th-graders? And how do we integrate the various disciplines of history, technology, literature, term paper and Jewish history to explore the life of one of the greatest Jewish luminaries of the past century? These were among the main questions which faced the 8th-grade team as we developed a curriculum based upon the life, times and writing of Elie Wiesel.

We are so proud and honored to announce that we received a grant from the Jewish Education Innovation Challenge to help us develop a curriculum about Wiesel that has the potential to be replicated at other Jewish Day Schools across the country. Though the money is important, what may be even more important is the national recognition that will accompany our work. While we may never fully answer the aforementioned questions, we hope our work can serve as a first step in honoring the memory of Elie Wiesel.
