Bernard Zell Community Pulls Together to Provide PPE to Chicago Police Department

In a tag-team effort to collect personal protective equipment for those fighting on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic, several members of the Bernard Zell community wanted to ensure the PPE reached those in need. Beth Sanzenbacher worked with the science team to pull together Bernard Zell's own inventory of PPE supplies and afterward, Deanna McBeath traveled to Bernard Zell to gather the materials and passed it on to Board Trustee and parent of alumna, Andrea Grostern.

Andrea, who lives next door to Will Taylor, a member of the Area Central Bike Department with the Chicago Police, reached out to her neighbor to see if his team could use the extra help. He immediately jumped for joy and relayed that they were unfortunately quite low on PPE compared to health care workers and he would be thrilled to take the supplies. He also said that any overflow that his team can’t use will go to the Central District for other units and he is sure that every piece of equipment (gloves, protective eyewear, wipes, Purell, etc.) will be used by CPD. See below for a note from Will and a few pictures of the PPE being used by the CPD.

Thank you again for your thoughtful donations. Everyone in my unit was more than appreciative. These supplies will really help us out on a daily basis. Please pass along our thanks to the school!
