Program Overview

BZ Enrichment is designed to enrich the diverse interests and talents of our students. And whether they’re looking for ways to sharpen their creativity, strengthen their bodies, or challenge their minds, they’ll find a wide variety of activities that will interest them. With new programs to sign up for three times a year, they’ll always find something new to explore.

Many of our BZ Enrichment activities are developed and taught by our talented faculty members. Students can add to their arts experience with guitar, music theatre, or woodshop and creativity lab. They can pursue physical activity with martial arts or yoga, or sharpen their skills in chess or science and engineering. We’re proud to offer such a diverse and ever-changing array of activities as part of the Bernard Zell vision of fostering a flexible and dynamic learning community.

British Swim School Lessons

Keep your JK - 6th grade swimmer moving after school on Thursdays starting March 21, 2019 with British Swim School swim lessons at the FFC on Pine Grove!

What Swimmers and parents can expect:

British Swim School is Chicago's premier water survival and learn to swim program.  They will start the after school program out by introducing each teacher on the first day and giving each swimmer an evaluation test to see where they will place in the BSS curriculum.  From there each swimmer will be placed in their skill level and the British Swim School will continue working with each swimmer to progress them through all 6 levels of their award winning curriculum.

Lessons will run from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. depending on the number of swimmers enrolled and the time-line for drop off at FFC, lessons will be between 30 - 45 minutes. Parents will be informed of their swimmer progress by downloading the British Swim School app to their smartphone. This after school program structure will not allow a swimmer to have private lessons which they might need in the event your child has a special ability or fear/anxiety in the water.  In the event that we have a swimmer who has fear or anxiety of the water, the British Swim School might ask that swimmer to join the British Swim School on the weekend for private lessons at their regular tuition rates.  In addition, British Swim School is committed to helping our families by offering a 10% discount if you join their regular programming on the weekends to enhance your swimmers progression rate.

Interested parents need to register their swimmer on BZ Connect and also call the British Swim School at (708)613-5179 or through their online registration site to create a student account and set up payment arrangements. After our first semester, we will build a webpage on specifically for the BZ After School Program. Price for 9 swim lessons will be only $270, this will go until May 30, 2019.

Drop off & Pick up:

At school dismissal a BZ staff member and security will walk all swimmers over to the FFC and to meet their teacher in the lobby at 3:45 p.m. All swim teachers and our staff will help get each swimmer changed into their swim gear and ready for lessons.

Pick up will be from 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (depending on your child's swim time) and parents are responsible for arranging pickup at FFC/New York Building(3660 N Lake Shore Dr, Chicago, IL 60613). After all lessons have concluded and the swimmers are dry and changed, British Swim School will have a member of their staff in the front lobby of the FFC to greet you. Parents will need to enter the lobby either by the parking garage entrance off Waveland Ave or the main entrance off Pine Grove Rd.  British Swim School will confirm each swimmer's authorized parent or guardian before releasing the swimmer. Students will be escorted to the lobby as each student's authorized contact has been confirmed.  Please do not pick up your children from the pool as this is the safety authorization method to confirm your child's being picked up safely.  There will be a $75 late fee for swimmers who are picked up late. (After 6:00 p.m.)  BZ Beyond will not be offered after swim lessons. Any changes to pick up should be emailed to Johnny Krug.

Please note that we need at least 15 students registered for this pilot program to run. In the event that we do not meet these needs you will be alerted via email by March 14 and refunded.

For more information regarding the British Swim School, please visit their website, all other questions regarding this after school program please contact Johnny Krug.
