MATT RIEGER MEMORIAL
Monday, November 1  4:00 p.m.
 Anshe Emet Synagogue Sanctuary

On Monday evening, the Bernard Zell community came together to honor the life of Matt Rieger, who passed away on October 27 following a short but hard-fought battle with cancer.

For more than a decade, Matt offered expertise, inspiration and mentorship to Bernard Zell students on the athletic field and in the classroom. His colleagues will remember his way with words, his ability to always make others feel important and his natural gifts in making people laugh. Students gravitated towards Matt, and under his leadership, came to know what it means to be a good human being. His profound impact on our community will be enduring.

For those who were unable to attend, you can still reflect and grieve by watching the recording of Monday's memorial or by making a contribution to the virtual memory book.
It is with profound sadness and immense grief that we share the news that beloved Bernard Zell Middle School teacher and longtime athletics coach, Matt Rieger, passed away October 27, 2021 following a brief but hard-fought battle with cancer.
This is a devastating and unexpected loss for our entire community, and especially for those who benefitted from his kindness and mentorship.
For more than a decade Matt offered unparalleled expertise, inspiration and fantastic nicknames to all those student-athletes who played a sport under his leadership. Beginning last school year, Matt also began his tenure here as a Middle School teacher, which allowed him to share even more deeply his personal passions for history, literature and poetry. More than anything else, Matt will be remembered for always making students and his fellow teachers feel important and cared for.
We hope you will join us in extending our deepest sympathy to Matt’s family and friends and in offering support to one another in this unbelievably challenging moment.
May Matt’s memory be a blessing, and may those who knew and loved him find comfort amongst the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
