Immersive Jewish Learning

First graders got a special visit this week! Ariot, a character from the 1st grade virtual TalAM curriculum, came to classrooms to deliver students their very first Hebrew book. This book, and the characters inside, will help our new 1st graders learn the Aleph-Bet. The students were surprised and delighted to meet this special lion in person and start their Hebrew learning. We look forward to expanding their Hebrew literacy through this immersive program.

Creativity + Perseverance = Inspirational Math

Welcome back to school! The math department is proud to announce that we completed our 3rd Annual Week of Inspirational Math to start the school year. By using and adapting curriculum from the Week of Inspirational Math by Jo Boaler, Middle School math teachers helped students transition into next-level mathematical thinking.

Longtime Bernard Zell Art Teacher in Chicago Magazine

We're thrilled to share that this month's Chicago Magazine features former Bernard Zell teacher Al Lieberman. The article, Witness to a Revolution, showcases Al's photos of the 1968 Democratic Convention that he took when just 29 years old. His son Saul recalls that he used the storage closet in the BZ art room as a makeshift darkroom for students.

Drop Off Safety Reminder

Due to construction, it is imperative that during morning drop-off, students of all ages are only allowed to exit cars once the car has entered the main parking lot and is queued up in the supervised drop-off area. While this may somewhat delay your child's arrival, safety is our top priority!

Summer Reading Reminder

It's not too late! Summer reading logs will be accepted until Wednesday, September 5. Go to the Summer Reading page on our website to complete summer reading logs online or download a paper log. Reading logs should be turned in to homeroom/Gibush or the library. Every student who submits their summer reading log will receive an award.
